| Abigail Bess Cortese Abigail Bess Cortese, 21, died Jan. 24, 2009, in a motor vehicle accident near Granite.
She was born Oct. 10, 1987, in Salida to Tony and Donna Cortese, the fourth of six children.
Abby grew up in Buena Vista and always lived life to the fullest. She loved soccer, snowboarding, Batman, travel, photography, flowers, mission trips, playing drums, guitar, piano, singing, and most of all spending time with Jesus and worshipping Him.
She was involved in many things, and with Abby, that meant being engaged fully with whatever she had to offer. Her activities included ProvinGround, leading worship, drama team and loving people; Beautiful Chaos, her hard-core girl band; numerous missions trips to Mexico while she was in high school; a class trip to Scotland; a month of travel and visiting friends in Europe in 2008; Sports Quest 2006, missions through her amazing soccer ability; YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in 2007, New Zealand/Fiji; and Steiger International in 2008, radical evangelism for the "unreachable."
Abby was a drums and guitar instructor, and she planted her incredible talent in others.
Every person Abby came in contact with was touched in some way, whether you knew her for five minutes or for five years. She loved people selflessly and encouraged so many. She kept in touch with everyone she knew.
Her favorite Bible verse was Zephaniah 3:17: "The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing."
Abby was employed at Vail Resorts as a reservationist and was a youth/worship leader and a drum and guitar teacher. She was a member of the Avon drummer on worship team at the Vail Calvary Church.
She is survived by her parents, Tony and Donna Cortese, Buena Vista; brothers Jesse Cortese, Buena Vista, and Luke Cortese, Buena Vista; sister Ruth Cortese, Colorado Springs; brother Samuel Cortese, Buena Vista; and sister Anna Cortese, Buena Vista. She was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy, and Grandmother Reed.
